Mommy's Baby Girl

Heather got jealous of mine and Emma's pic, so she wanted one of her own...

Daddy's Baby Girl

Emma and I have been hanging out a lot more. I realized recently that I haven't been spending near the time with Emma that I spent with Emery when he was her age. There are a variety of reasons for this (more children=less time, Heather and my schedules are more hectic) but none of those reasons are justifications for not spending more time with my daughter. So Emma and I spent the afternoon watching movies on TV (actually, she spent a good portion of the time sleeping in my arms but it's still quality time). And as there is a dearth of pictures with me and Emma available, I snapped off a quick 5 or 6 when she woke up.

The Big Three

Here we have Emery's three favorite fictional characters, Spongebob Squarepants, Elmo and Spiderman, in that order (Elmo and Spongebob are practically neck and neck for overall favorite but Spiderman is making a strong push to overtake them). The trailer for Spiderman 3 came on the TV the other day and Emery immediately said "Spiderman" (or rather "Imerman"). He kept repeating "Imerman, Imerman" and clapping his hands during the entire trailer. Maybe, just maybe, Spiderman 3 will be Emery and Daddy's first movie theatre adventure (if nothing else, I can keep him occupied with coke and popcorn while Daddy watches the movie).

Circus Fun

Heather took Emery to the circus last week. By all accounts he enjoyed himself immensely (I stayed home with Emma). The picture to the right is after Emery got home. He was hungry so I whipped up a dish of one of his favorites: grilled cheese sammiches (happens to be one of my favorites too). Have you ever seen someone fall asleep while eating? I was sitting at the table while Emery was eating and happened to glance over at him. He would take a bite of food, then close his eyes for a minute or two then wake up to finish chewing his food. Oddly enough, the minute I put him to bed, he was wired for sound, laughing and singing.

Still friends

They still like each other. Emery has started to take his big brother role seriously. He'll pick up Emma's pacifier when she drops it and he'll help pat her back when we're burping her after a feeding. Of course Emma is engrossed in everything Emery does, watching him constantly while he's playing. Humorous anecdote...Emma was crying on the trip home from daycare. I was trying to placate her by talking to her and calling out her name...after the third time I said her name, Emery called out with a resounding, "Emmmmaaa". Okay, so that was a "had to be there" moment, but it still makes me chuckle.

Playin' outside

There is a bit of irony to this picture but to appreciate it you need a bit of back story. When Emery was around Emma's current age, we tried to take him outside to play in the grass. He would literally scream every time we set him down. Daycare even mentioned it as they play outside when it's warm. He could be sitting on something outside and be fine, but the moment he touched the ground it was a complete change in demeanor. Fast forward about a year and its all we can do to keep him from running outside every chance he gets (sometimes he'll try to do this straight out of the bathtub, sans clothing or a diaper). Emery LOVES to play outside. And it's actually quite amusing to watch him play. He will walk along, picking at things in his path, then take off at a dead run like he was shot out of a cannon (the way he runs is also amusing...his left arm will swing rapidly but he'll keep his right arm perfectly still). Emery will do this at least 4 times in ten minutes. Fortunately, the weather has been accommodating to some serious outside play and we try to take advantage of it when we come home from daycare.

Laundry Day

This was a fairly funny moment...I hope my writing chops are up to the task of conveying it properly. We were doing laundry this weekend past and Emery decided to help...by help, I mean he would throw folded clothes out of the laundry basket and put the clothes hamper on his head. (On further reflection, this was something I would have done in college after a long night of partying) But Emery wasn't just content to play with the clothes hamper for a few minutes. He wore that thing on his head, voluntarily, for about 30 minutes. While watching Spongebob Squarepants. While this is humorous now, I can just imagine the phone calls I'm going to get from the principal when Emery starts school in a few years.

Easter pix II

Here is a closeup of Emma's Easter pix...We had some pix professionally made and I'll post them later. Enjoy!

Easter pix

Easter pix, fresh from the camera. I'm of two minds regarding the hoopla surrounding Easter. On the one hand, I can see how people like the pagentry and joie de vivre that comes around every Easter. Kids get dressed up and hunt Easter eggs, parents take photos (such as these) and shamelessy foist them onto any and all unsuspecting passers-by. On the other hand, isn't it all just a bit overblown? I mean, do we really need to spend time and money dressing our children up in what are essentially Halloween costumes that they will never wear again? (My mother bought Emma's outfit and while she does look cute, I don't think we'll send her to daycare in it) Either way, here are our cute children, with their cousin J'son in the middle. Emery had fun looking for Easter eggs for about five minutes then simply concerned himself with running around mindlessly outside.

Peas and Carrots

We're eating solid foods now...well, semi-solids anyway. Rice cereal mixed with fruit or vegetables. Oddly enough, she's lukewarm on the fruit but absolutely loves the vegetables. Which is the complete opposite of Emery. That kid would eat 4 jars of fruit but you had to pry his jaws open to get him to eat vegetables. Emma's also a cleaner eater than Emery was at this stage. No clue if that will last but it is nice to have one child that can eat a meal without requiring a total body cleaning.
